WATCH: Insane video for "Bloodsucker" by Mozes and the Firstborn (NSFW)

Mozes and the Firstborn, who are from Antwerp, have only recently came under my radar thanks to Burger Records. Their sound is old yet new, John Lennon with more anger problems than he already had. "Bloodsucker" is full of rhetorical questions and interesting lyrical content. When I first started watching this video I didn't quite understand the point of the NSFW/EXTREMELY GRAPHIC warnings and didn't really pay them much mind. The video begins with a man innocently shaving his face and, well, what happens next will probably disturb you. Watch below, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Video is inspired by a Martin Scorsese short appropriately titled "The Big Shave," which is also very NSFW.

LISTEN: "Sun Machines" by Animals in Human Attire

"Sun Machines," the first single off of Animals in Human Attire's forthcoming LP entitled Ourmegadawn is epic and dense and reminds me of The Flaming Lips mixed with At The Drive-In. It was recorded at Howl Street Recordings by Shane Hochstetler.

Download it for free and/or get a physical copy at their release show April 11th at Linneman's.

ALSO PLAYING: The Fatty Acids, Pushmi-Pullyu, Tweens.

SNEAK PREEK: "Casino" by Calliope

Local pysch blues rockers Calliope released a sneak preek of their upcoming album on Monday. If its any indication of what the album will sound like I am very fucking excited. The song starts out with an repetitive organ sound that reminded me of Animal Collective's "My Girls" which swells to an epic malt shop drum beat with distorted guitar, bass and keys soaring overhead. Really looking forward to what these guys are cooking up.

CONCERT REVIEW: Blonder, Sat Nite Duets, Ava Luna, Krill @ Riverwest Public House

Sunday shows can be very difficult, especially in the midst of one of the most hellish winters to date. But sometimes there is a show that is so good, so real, that you forget for a moment what day it is and how cold the windchill is just beyond the four walls of protection the bar was nice enough to provide. This past sunday at the Public House was one of those shows. Half of the bill was comprised of touring groups from Boston and Brooklyn, while Sat Nite Duets and Blonder provided the local support.

Blonder was the first group to play. They played a loose M83 style emo-dream-pop. These guys are just getting their start but I think with some work on both the female and male vocals, as well as the banter in between songs they will really wow folks with their sound.

Krill took the stage and I think I remember them opening with this track titled Oppressor. This was one of the first songs I heard online by the band so I suppose its fitting that it was also the first song I hear them play live. Krill hail from Boston, MA, a town that has produced some great bands see Fat History Month, Kal Marks, Pile, amongst many others. Krill writes immersive and weird pop songs. Their recordings are top notch and their live show was no different. Loopy guitars, melodic bass runs, and powerful, emotional vocals. They played a fantastic set. Definitely worth checking out the next time they come around.

After Krill's set I ventured outside to have a smoke and then the bar to snatch a drink. Ava Luna started before I got back in from the tundra but as soon as I walked in I was struck by the lead singers crooning soulful voice and the duo female back up harmonies which reminded me of Dirty Projectors. Their sound was disjointed and funky and sounded almost too much like the Talking Heads. Regardless, I had fun and the rest of the crowd seemed to enjoy it as well. Check these folks out, they will not disappoint.

Sat. Nite Duets

WATCH: Music video for Canopies newest single "Miss You Now"

Canopies blew me away when they released their first EP, named appropriately [EP] albeit a not very creative title. They then laid dormant for nearly 3 years and then dropped this bomb on Milwaukee and hopefully the entire universe. Chocked full of Tame Impala vibes. Stay tuned for more from Canopies. Listen and watch below..
